Men's Swimming Earns Second Dual-Meet Win of Season with Victory Over Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. (November 15, 2008) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team returned to competitive action on Saturday afternoon and did not disappoint. The Ducks breezed by Misericordia University 154-103 to earn their second dual-meet win of the season in Dallas, Pa. Stevens moves to 2-1 on the young season and will return to action at next weekend's Golden Bear Invitational in Kutztown, Pa.

Sophomore Nicholas Walulik, sophomore Matt Preedy, rookie Mark Carpinella, and freshman Carl Nagle teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.16 to open the day's action.

Sophomore All-American Evan Wilson was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:16.29). Wilson was followed by freshman Bill Bagdon in second (10:18.94). Freshman Matt Smith  won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.00 and was followed by sophomore Daniel Pecoraro in second.

Walulik took number one in the 100-yard backstroke, and Wilson and Preedy were two-three in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.79; 1:03.89). Nagle and Steven Vealey finished second and third in the 50-free with individual times of 22.34 and 22.77. That same duo was one and two in the 100-yard freestyle. Nagle finished first as he carded a 49.71, and Vealey a 50.50.

Wilson also won the 200-yard breaststroke, and freshman Sean Iveson was a winner in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.56). Senior captain Will Gerboth was second in the 500-free with a time of 5:19.04.

Carpinella was a winner in the 100-yard butterfly as Stevens swam the last two events as exhibitions.

Next weekend's Golden Bear Invite is all day on both Friday and Saturday.
