GLASSBORO, N.J. (January 17, 2009) – On Saturday afternoon at Rowan University, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team fell to the Profs, 109-96. The loss drops the Ducks to 2-2 in dual-meet action this season. Stevens was led by sophomore All-American Evan Wilson who had two first-place finishes and one third. The Ducks took first in five events in all, but Rowan was able to get 28 out of 34 possible points in the two team relays to help secure the win. Stevens will return to action on Monday with a home meet versus SUNY New Paltz.

Wilson finished first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:15.03. His time was 1:20.20 better than the second-place finisher. The sophomore also won the 500-free, touching at 4:56.56 as freshman Matt Smith was second in the same event (4:59.42).

Sophomores Daniel Pecoraro and Nicholas Walulik were first and second in the 200-yard freestyle, turning in times of 1:48.17 and 1:50.58, respectively. Freshman Carl Nagle touched at 22.10 in the 50-free, and Smith placed first in the 200-yard individual medley. He also took second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.56 as Wilson finished third.

Nagle and Walulik finished two and three in the 100-free, and Pecoraro was the top finisher in the 200-yard backstroke as he carded at 2:01.72. Matt Preedy rounded out the Ducks' individual scoring with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke.

“We've been working hard in practice lately, swimming a lot of double sessions,” Head Coach Trevor Miele said. “I think we were a bit tired today, but the times I saw were a little better than expected so that is a good sign as we start to eye the Empire 8 Championships.”

The Stevens-New Paltz dual-meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the De Baun Aquatic Complex.
