Men's Swimming Sits in First After Day One of MAC Championships

York, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swim team sits in first place after the opening day of the 2026 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Thursday.

Stevens leads the field with 396 points, followed by York in second with 347.5 points. Arcadia is third with 198 points, while Widener (174.5) and Misericordia (174) round out the top five.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks wasted no time, placing four swimmers in the "A" final of the 500-freestyle. Patrick Cortelli, who finished second during the preliminary round, repeated the result in the finals. After posting a 4:47.60 in the morning, Cortelli clocked a 4:43.02 in the evening. Sebastien Nappi finished fourth in the finals, just one-and-a-half seconds out of third, while Yusuf Tokuz placed sixth in 4:51.56 and Kerem Dogruer took seventh in 4:53.68. Will Hyde won the "B" final with a time of 4:53.13, and Andrew Gaba finished 14th overall in 4:59.31.

Cooper Moffatt earned a spot on the podium in the 200 individual medley, finishing third with a time of 1:55.89 after placing fifth in the prelims (1:59.07). He missed second place by just 0.63 seconds. Lukas Mikulenas placed seventh in 1:59.88, while Jason Scheckner took eighth in 2:02.16.

Will Stibor also reached the podium, placing third in the 50-freestyle with a time of 21.16. Leo Timmermann tied for fourth in 21.17, missing third by 0.01 seconds and tying with Nick Bordovsky of York. Gailen Davis added an eighth-place finish in 21.82. In the "B" final, Niall Easton placed second in 22.01, while Matthew Beaney tied for fourth in 22.47.

The Ducks closed out day one with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay. The foursome of Timmermann, Mikulenas, Deo Bove, and Kyle Phillips touched the wall in 1:34.61, three seconds behind York. The quartet of Ethan Emerton, Moffatt, Davis, and Easton won the "C" final, posting a time of 1:36.04.

UP NEXT
Stevens continues competition at the MAC Championships tomorrow, with prelims beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday's events include the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 medley relay.
