Men's Swimming Drops Dual-Meet to United States Merchant Marine Academy, 123-82

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 30, 2009) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 123-82 on Friday night at the De Baun Aquatic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. Kings Point won eight of the 11 total events on the evening to move to 10-1 in dual-meet action this season. The Ducks fall to 3-3 in duals on the year as they were led by freshman Carl Nagle and sophomore Matt Preedy who each won an event on the evening.

Stevens opened the meet strongly, taking first in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of sophomores Nicholas Walulik and Preedy, and freshmen Matthew Carpinella and Nagle combined to turn in a 1:39.16.

Freshman Matt Smith was solid in turning in a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:18.89) as sophomore Daniel Pecoraro placed second in the 200-free (1:49.30). Nagle touched at 22.26 in winning the 50-free, and Pecoraro earned his second, second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. He carded a 56.60.

Smith was second in the 500-free, finishing a shade over five minutes (5:01.68), and Preedy got his win in the 100-yard breaststroke. The sophomore touched at 1:02.14, just .12 better than second place.

The Ducks will close out the home portion of their schedule on Saturday afternoon with a dual-meet against Adelphi University. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. in the De Baun Aquatic Complex.
