Men's Volleyball Sweeps NJCU, 3-0 in NECVA Metro Matchup; Dorywalski Records 350th-Career Win as Men's Coach

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (March 23, 2009) – Senior outside hitter Joe Trinsey led the team in kills (14) en route to a .440 hitting percentage on 25 swings with three errors to help lift the sixth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team to its sixth league victory of the season in a 3-0 win against New Jersey City University Monday evening in Jersey City, N.J. The Ducks produced a .371 hitting percentage on the night and tallied eight team blocks as Head Coach Patrick Dorywalski claimed his 350th career win tonight, as coach of the men's program. With the win, Stevens improves to 18-6 overall and 6-1 in North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro division play, while the Gothic Knights fall to 20-14 on the year and 5-4 in conference action.

Senior middle hitter Andrew Cranford hit .500 on the night as he landed 12 kills on 20 attempts. Cranford had three blocks in the win, while Trinsey had a pair to go with his seven defensive digs. Senior outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio totaled 11 kills to manufacture a .375 attacking rating off of 24 attempts and just two errors. He too led the team with seven digs and added three block assists.

Senior John Dennan and sophomore SteFan PremDas combined for eight kills from the outside hitting position as the pair each landed a service ace. Sophomore setters Brandt Grobeis and Aaron Ostrovsky dished out a total of 49 assists as Grobeis led with 33 and Ostrovsky connected on 16.

For NJCU, sophomore outside hitter Marley Pena-Guzman (Atlanta, Ga.) led with 15 kills, while both senior outside hitters Thiago Siqueira (Newark, N.J.) and Kevin Rodgers (Clifton, N.J.) recorded five kills apiece. Rodgers led the team with four total blocks as the Gothic Knights produced a .168 hitting percentage and posted five team blocks. Sophomore setter Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba) chipped in, having launched 34 assists on the evening and lifted four digs.

Dorywalski started the men's varsity program at Stevens in 1990 as he boasts a record of 350-195, which equates to a .642 win-loss percentage. He also pioneered the women's program from 1986 to 1999 to register a mark of 134-150-1. He currently has the most wins of any coach in the history of Stevens athletics with a total of 484.

The Ducks return to the court on Tuesday as they play in their eighth NECVA metro match of the season against Yeshiva University, scheduled for an 8 p.m. start in Hoboken, N.J.
