HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 20, 2009) – Freshman Brooke Catanzano captured her team-high seventh singles victory of the season while helping the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team to its sixth-straight dual match win following a 6-3 triumph over Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, N.Y. The Ducks are now 6-1 on the year and 4-0 in league play, while the Cardinals fall to 3-3 with a 2-2 mark in conference action.

St. John Fisher's Laura Hale (Warsaw, N.Y.) and Elena Vahl (Pittsford, N.Y.) got the Cardinals off to a good start with an 8-1 win over Stevens' junior Allyson Kingman and sophomore Nicole Portner in top-flight doubles, but back-to-back wins by Catanzano and sophomore Morgan Scalzi and Kendra Appleheimer and Alexandra Handel in second and third-flight doubles, respectively, would give the Ducks a 2-1 advantage after doubles action.

Vahl would knot the dual-match tally at two apiece with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Portner in No. 2 singles, but Catanzano would help the Ducks regain the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win over junior Katie Catalano (Spencerport, N.Y.) in No. 4 singles.

Cardinals' senior Katie Barlow (Latham, N.Y.) would once again tie the score with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Ducks' sophomore Mine Bese, but Stevens would respond with three straight victories to close out the match. Kingman got things started with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-0, 6-3, come-from-behind win over Hale in No. 1 singles, before Scalzi defeated sophomore Marissa Rotondo (Syracuse, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles. Handel sealed the Ducks' win with a 6-0, 7-6 victory over junior Katelyn Smith (Lockport, N.Y.) in No. 5 singles.

Stevens will look to extend its dual-match win-streak to seven when it squares off with Ramapo College on September 23.
