HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 5, 2009) – Senior midfielder John Radvany ripped a perfect shot into the top-right corner of the goal at the 62-minute mark to break a 0-0 deadlock and help spark the No. 2 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Hunter College at the De Baun Athletic Complex on Saturday night in the Stevens College Cup. Senior Terrence Johnson scored the other goal as freshman Zach Adler registered both assists. The win moves the Ducks to 2-0 on the young season.

The Ducks started slow in this one, generating only two quality scoring chances in the game's first 45 minutes as Hunter hung tough. Stevens attempted five total shots in the first half and held the Hawks to just one as junior goalkeeper Zach Carr did not have to make a single save.

From the start of the second half, Stevens seemed to up its intensity, getting several strong runs at the goal and finally breaking the scoreless tie with Radvany's laser.

Adler had the ball on the left side about 20-yards out and passed back to an open Radvany in the middle of the field. The senior touched it once and then fired a bullet into the upper-right hand corner of the cage. It was his first goal of the season.

Just 3:49 later, the Ducks put the game away with Johnson's third goal of 2009. Adler made a move to the left corner and then crossed the ball with his left foot in front to Johnson who was there for the header. Adler now has three assists in just two games this season.

The Ducks got off nine shots in the second half and ended with a 14-3 advantage. Stevens took three corners compared to two for Hunter as the Hawks committed nine fouls. Stevens commited seven.

Carr ended the night having to make one save for the win. The junior recorded the 24th shutout of his career. Freshman Murtaza Munir (Staten Island, N.Y.) took the loss in goal. Munir made five saves.

Stevens will now take on Rhode Island College on Sunday night in what will be a rematch of a 2008 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Second Round game that the Ducks won 2-0. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Hunter will face SUNY New Paltz in the first game of the afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
