DALLAS, Pa. (November 6, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team rolled to a 151.5 107.5 win over Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon in Dallas, Pa. Senior captain Daniel Pecoraro and sophomore John Hu each won a pair of events as the Ducks took the top-spot in eight different races on the afternoon. Stevens is now 2-0 in dual-meets this season.
Stevens started the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as sophomore Greg Charriez, senior captain Matthew Preedy, sophomore Daniel Munt, and junior Carl Nagle teamed to finish with a 1:38.17.
The Ducks' first win of the day came in the 1,000-yard freestyle as sophomore Alex Benham, senior Evan Wilson, and sophomore Luke Niezelski placed first, second, and third with times of 9:50.55, 10:13.49, and 10:47.26. Senior captain Dan Pecoraro, freshman Conor Arcuri, and sophomore Derek Smith did the same in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.97, 1:48.75, 1:50.04), while Charriez and rookie Nick Noga were first and third in the 100-yard backstroke (54.11, 56.82).
Preedy recorded a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.79) and sophomore John Hu earned a win in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.64. Junior Matthew Smith turned in a 2:02.91 in placing second in the same event.
Munt and Nagle were second and third in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 22:57 and 22.61, respectively, as Preedy and freshman Joseph Huyett went one-two in the 100-yard freestyle (49.20, 49.46).
Pecoraro's second win of the day came in the 200-yard backstroke as he touched the wall at 1:59.75. Noga was second in the same event with a time of 2:03.22. Hu's second win of the day was in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.36), and he was followed by Wilson third (2:14.63).
Arcuri took home a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:52.19 and Derek Smith was second, clocking a 5:09.46. Charriez and Matthew Smith were one-two in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 54.23 and 55.32, respectively.
Stevens swam the final two events of the afternoon in exhibition, but had it not, Benham would have won the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:00.80, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team would have won as well after turning in a 1:26.86.
Stevens will return to competition when it heads to Kutztown, Pa. on November 19 and 20 for the Golden Bear Invitational
