PURCHASE, N.Y. (March 6, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team upped its season tally to 13-8, while extending their current win-streak to five with a pair of victories over SUNY Purchase and Sage College. The Ducks defeated the Panthers, 3-0 (30-21, 30-25, 30-15) before downing fellow North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Metro member, Sage College, 3-0 (30-18, 30-13, 30-17).
Junior outside hitter Bryant DeFranco tallied 15 kills and 11 digs on the day, while junior SteFan PremDas had 14 kills, six digs, and three blocks. Freshman Tom Hannum added 11 kills and seven digs in a pair of matches, while junior co-captain Brandt Grobeis had 33 assists.
Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, March 10 when it plays host to No. 13 Ramapo College.
Stevens 3, SUNY Purchase 0 (30-21, 30-25, 30-15)
PremDas led the Ducks with seven kills, four digs and two assists. Hannum and DeFranco each tallied five kills, while senior co-captain John Dennan and freshmen Jake Modestow and James Mataras each tallied four kills. Senior Andrew Fessler dished out a match-best 17 assists, while Grobeis added 13 helpers.
Senior Dan Grabowski-Clark (Farmington, Conn.) had seven kills and seven digs to lead Purchase, while Len Mui (Commack, N.Y.) and Brandon Berry (Potomac, Md.) each had five kills. Sophomore setter Bruno Estrada (Queens, N.Y.) tied a match-best with 17 assists in the loss.
Stevens 3, Sage 0 (30-18, 30-13, 30-17)
DeFranco tallied a match-high 10 kills and added nine digs to lead Stevens to its second-consecutive sweep, while PremDas added seven kills, four service aces and two digs. Junior Jonathan Landis Fessler, and Dennan each finished with four kills, while Grobeis handed out 25 assists while directing the Ducks' attack.
Sage freshman middle hitter Jed Kubisch (Delmar, N.Y.) had four kills and three digs in the loss, while fellow freshman Kyle Ray (Horseheads, N.Y.) had six digs in defense. Freshman setter Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, N.Y.) finished with nine assists.
