PremDas Helps Men's Volleyball Split A Pair Of Matches In Final Day Of 2011 Golden Dome Classic

NEWARK, N.J. (January 30, 2011) – Junior SteFan PremDas hammered home 28 kills and collected 16 digs on the afternoon, as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team split a pair of matches with D'Youville College and tournament host Rutgers-Newark in the final day of the 2011 Golden Dome Classic held in Newark, N.J. The Ducks began the day with a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-22) sweep of the Spartans before suffering its first loss of the season, dropping its Classic finale to the Scarlet Raiders 3-1 (20-25, 29-27, 27-25, 25-21).

Stevens, now 6-1 on the young season, returns to action on Wednesday, February 2 when it hosts league rival Vassar College before traveling to Buffalo, N.Y. to face Nazareth College and Hilbert College on February, 5-6, respectively, in the first of two United Volleyball Conference Crossover weekends.

Stevens 3, D'Youville 0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-22)
Stevens came out strong to start the match, hitting a blistering .478 on 23 swings in a 25-20 first set victory. The Ducks then notched a hard-fought 26-24 win in the second before completing the sweep with a 25-22 triumph in the third set – holding the Spartans to a paltry .114 hitting percentage.

Freshman David Evans led the Ducks with a match-high 13 kills, while PremDas added 10 kills and five digs. Senior Jonathan Landis added eight kills, eight digs, and three blocks, while fellow senior Brandt Grobeis dished out 39 assists in the Ducks' sixth victory of the season.

Senior Jeremy Sajdak (Rochester, N.Y.) paced the Spartans' attack with 12 kills and eight digs, while sophomore middle blocker Todd Potter (Kenmore, N.Y.) added seven kills and three blocks. Sophomore setter JJ Senozetnik (Eden, N.Y.) finished with 28 helpers in the loss.

Rutgers-Newark 3, Stevens 1 (20-25, 29-27, 27-25, 25-21)
PremDas led all hitters with 18 kills on a .361 attack percentage, while also adding 11 digs and two blocks. Landis finished 11 kills and seven digs in the loss, while Evans tallied six kills and four digs. Senior Timothy Karl added seven kills, four digs and two blocks, while Grobeis closed out Classic play with a 43-assist, 10-dig effort.

Junior outside hitter Marcin Midura (Linden, N.J.) notched 16 kills, six digs, and four blocks to lead the host Scarlet Raiders, while fellow juniors Austin Pappas (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and Kenneth de Groh (Palos Heights, Ill.) had 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Senior setter Jeff Zornig (Coto de Caza, Calif.) collected 49 assists, five dig, and three blocks in the win.
