CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (February 13, 2011) – Despite a stellar night from senior SteFan PremDas, who hit .469 with a match-best 16 kills, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team fell short in its bid to upend Division I Harvard University, falling to the Crimson 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 27-25) at the Malkin Athletic Center in Cambridge, Mass. With the loss the Ducks fell to 8-3 overall on the year.

The Crimson opened the match with a hard-fought 25-23 first set triumph, hitting .308 on 26 swings. Harvard continued to apply pressure through the second set, tallying a match-best .323 attack percentage in a 25-22 victory. Hoping to keep pace, Stevens hit .389 in the third, while holding the Crimson to a .209 attack rate, but Harvard would do just enough to win, taking a close 27-25 decision to complete the sweep.

Sophomore Jake Modestow finished with nine kills, hitting .727, while senior outside hitter Jonathan Landis had eight kills and five blocks. Freshman David Evans tallied five kills and three digs, while senior Timothy Karl notched three kills. Senior co-captain Brandt Grobeis added 40 assists and three digs in the loss, averaging an impressive 13.3 helpers per set, a while senior libero Aaron Ostrovsky collected 11 digs.

Junior outside hitter Matt Jones (La Jolla, Calif.) led the Crimson with 15 kills, hitting .357 on 28 swings, while also adding five digs. Freshman Chris Gibbons (Yorba Linda, Calif.) added nine kills and 10 digs, while fellow freshmen Nick Madden (San Diego, Calif.) and Kyle Rehkemper (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) each had seven kills. Sophomore setter Rob Lothman (Glendale, Mo.) dished out with 34 assists while directing the Harvard attack.

Despite out-hitting the Crimson .298 to .270 as a team over the match's three sets, Harvard held a 9-5 blocks advantage, helping the home team win the battle at the net.

Stevens will look to break back into the win column on Wednesday, February 16 when it takes on United Volleyball Conference rival Bard College.
