No. 6 Men's Volleyball Drops Battle Between Two Top-10 Teams, Falling to No. 10 Philadelphia Biblical, 3-0

LANGHORNE, Pa. (March 2, 2011) – Despite a .346 hitting percentage and team-high 11 kills from senior outside hitter Jonathan Landis, the sixth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team fell to No. 10 Philadelphia Biblical University, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-23), in a battle of two American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) top-10 teams at the Mason Activity Center in Langhorne, Pa. The Ducks fell to 12-6 overall on the season with the loss, while the Crimson Eagles improved to 15-4 on the year.

Stevens managed just a .047 hitting percentage in the first set, a 25-21 loss to the home team, before tallying a .184 attack rate in a 25-22 defeat in the second. Hoping to close out the match, Philadelphia Biblical did just enough in the final frame, allowing just 13 kills on 33 Ducks' swings en route to a hard-fought 25-23 triumph, completing the three-game sweep.

Sophomore Jake Modestow hit .375 for the match with eight kills and three blocks, while freshman David Evans added seven kills and seven digs. Seniors Brandt and Aaron Ostrovsky combined for 27 assists in the loss, while fellow senior Bryant DeFranco collected a team-high 13 digs.

Senior outside hitter Justin Brubaker (Telford, Pa.) paced the Crimson Eagles with a match-high 12 kills, while sophomore Noah Prickett (Yardley, Pa.) added nine kills and a match-best 16 digs. Senior Jon Rose (Warrington, Pa.) and sophomores Ethan Mawhinney (Langhorne, Pa.) and Josh Tuttle (Eastport, N.Y.) combined for 11 kills, 10 digs, and 10 blocks in the win. Senior setter Drew Dillon (Mount Joy, Pa.) finished with 31 assists while directing the Philadelphia Biblical attack.

The Crimson Eagles outhit Stevens .204 to .140 for the match, while holding a 16-11 block advantage. The Ducks will look to break back into the win column on Saturday, March 5, when they kick-off the second United Volleyball Conference Crossover Weekend against D'Youville College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
