Women's Tennis Finishes the Week Perfect

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (September 18, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team put the finishing touches on a 27-0 week with a 9-0 Empire 8 victory over St. John Fisher College on Sunday afternoon.  The Ducks remain undefeated (5-0, 3-0 Empire 8) while the Cardinals fall to 3-2 and 2-1 in the league.

Two of the Ducks' doubles pairs swept through their opening matches, with freshman Jessica Bourque and sophomore Lisa Tessitore winning 8-0 at first doubles and senior Morgan Scalzi and freshman Danielle Stewart winning their third doubles match-up by the same margin. Seniors Nicole Portner and Mine Bese posted an 8-4 win at second doubles.

Junior Alexandra Handel was the first singles player to wrap up her victory, wining at sixth singles 6-4, 6-0. Danielle Stewart won Stevens' fifth victory and therefore clinched the match with her 6-0, 6-3 win at third singles. Portner (Second Singles / 6-4, 6-0), Tessitore (Fifth / 6-1, 6-1) and Bourque (First / 6-3, 6-4) all won their singles matches as well.

Senior Mine Bese swept through her fourth singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0. Bese, Handel, Stewart and Bourque are undefeated this season in dual-meet competition.

The Ducks will play again this Wednesday, September 21 at Muhlenberg College beginning at 4 p.m.
