No. 5 Hopkins Tops No. 6 Men's Swimming

BALTIMORE, Md. (January 21, 2012) – Stevens Institute of Technology fell 158-99 to Johns Hopkins University in a men's swimming dual-meet on Saturday featuring two of the top NCAA Division III programs in the nation. The Ducks fell to 2-1 in duals this season and were led by junior John Hu (Oak Harbor, Wash.) who earned a pair of individual wins. Hopkins improved to 6-0 with the win.

Freshman Wesley Elford (Phoenx, Ariz.) earned Stevens' first win of the day, clocking a 9:38.82 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, and junior Alex Benham (Raleigh, N.C.) placed second with a time of 9:56.78.

Sophomore Shawn Hanak (North Royalton, Ohio) earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (53.61), with junior Greg Charriez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) touching third at 54.28.

Hu carded a first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.04, and Charriez earned another third in the 200-yard backstroke, turning in a 1:59.62.

Hu was second in the 200-yard breaststroke, notching a 2:09.90, and Benham and sophomore Conor Arcuri (Beaverton, Ore.) went two-three in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.81, 4:51.07). Hu's second win came in the 400-yard individual medley (4:05.36).

Stevens will return to dual-meet action on January 28 at SUNY New Paltz. The Ducks will return home to the De Baun Aquatic Center on January 29 for a meet with No. 7 The College of New Jersey. The TCNJ-Stevens dual will be webcast live at www.Empire8.tv.
