Marguerite Chavez (Oceanport, N.J.) each had four points as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team clinched the No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 Championship with a 4-2 win at Washington & Jefferson College Saturday morning. The Ducks improved to 7-0 in the Empire 8 and 11-6 overall with the victory.

Jillian Fiebel (Roxbury, N.J.), beating W&J goalie
Kira Bunker (Magnolia, Del.) and tucking her shot inside the right post.
Senior forward
Jennifer Marabella (Sinking Spring, Pa.) tied things at one apiece in the 18th minute on a redirection that originated on the stick of senior
Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa.). It was the 11th goal of the year for Marabella.
The Ducks took the lead for good 3:06 later when Brook notched her 10th of the year, redirecting a Chavez shot into the left side of the cage. Chavez was credited with her fifth assist of the season.
Stevens pushed its margin to two goals (3-1) 12:34 into the second period when Chavez ended a scrum in front with her 13th marker, and 2:21 later junior back
Megan Traub (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) took a Chavez insert from a penalty corner and blasted a shot into the right side for her seventh of the year.
W&J netted the game's final tally with 5:58 to play as sophomore
Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamstead, Conn.) capitalized on a loose ball after a rebound.
Senior goalie
Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, Texas) made eight saves in goal for Stevens, while Bunker stopped 11 shots in the loss.
The Ducks finished with a 17-12 margin in shots and a 17-5 advantage in penalty corners.
After taking on Elmira October 28 to close out the regular season, the Ducks will then turn their attention to the Empire 8 Championship. Stevens will host the tournament on November 3 & 4 at the De Baun Athletic Complex. The other three teams in the tournament are to be determined.
