Jillian Fiebel (Roxbury, N.J.) scored twice and junior
Grace Ridge (Moorestown, N.J.) tallied once in addition to making a defensive save as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team rolled to a 3-0 win at Elmira College Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Ducks moved to 12-6 overall and recorded their third perfect conference regular season in the last five years (7-0).
Stevens got on the board in the 39th minute when Ridge and the Ducks capitalized on a penalty corner. Ridge took an insert from junior
Marguerite Chavez (Oceanport, N.J.) and hammered home her third score of the year.
Stevens pushed the margin to 2-0 2:44 later when junior
Megan Traub (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) corralled a rebound and tapped to Fiebel in front for the score. The insurance came in the 55th minute when a Traub shot bounced to Fiebel who controlled and put it in for her eight marker of the season.
Fiebel ended with a pair of scores while Traub had two assists – her second and third of the season. Chavez's helper was her fifth of the year and team-high 31st point.
Senior
Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, Texas) tallied the second shutout of her field hockey career, making two saves on the day.
Stevens ended with a 29-5 edge in shots and a 13-11 margin in penalty corners. Junior goalie
Lauren Thomas (Marshfield, Mass.) made 18 saves for Elmira in the loss.
The Ducks will host next weekend's Empire 8 Championship at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Saturday's semifinals will start with No. 1 Stevens vs. No. 4 Washington & Jefferson College at 11:30 a.m. No. 2 Utica College will battle No. 3 St. John Fisher College at 2:30 p.m. with the winners squaring off at 1/2:30 p.m. Sunday.
