MORRISTOWN, N.J. (October 7, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team ended its 2012 regular season this weekend with two dominant Empire 8 victories. On Sunday, the Ducks defeated Hartwick College 8-1 to end the schedule with a 7-3 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the conference. The team will move on to the Empire 8 Championship on October 20-21.
For the second-straight day the doubles competition ended in a Stevens sweep.
Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) and
Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) won 8-3 at ones. Both other results were 8-4, with
Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.) and
Julia Guignard (Lowville, N.Y.) winning at twos and
Nathalie Tran (Livingston, N.J.)
Lexie Handel (Sparta, N.J.) taking threes.
Bourque swept first singles 6-0, 6-0, and both Stewart and Guignard dropped only one game each at threes and fours. All other Stevens victories were in straight sets as well.
The Empire 8 Championship will begin on October 20. Stevens will be the third seed and take on second-seeded Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y.
