Men's Volleyball Blanks Behrend to Stay Unbeaten

Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 12, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team, ranked eighth in the country, defeated Penn State Behrend in straight sets, 3-0, in the final day of the first round of United Volleyball Conference Crossover play on February 12 in Walker Gymnasium. Stevens dropped the Lions, 25-22, 25-16, 25-18, to improve to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the UVC this season.

The Ducks used another solid performance from sophomore David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.), who tallied a team-best 15 kills and a .464 hitting percentage in the match. Evans also recorded four total blocks and four digs.

Junior Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) and freshman Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) combined for 15 kills and nine digs for the Ducks. Hannum posted seven kills and four digs, while Tyger chipped in eight kills, five digs, two blocks and two service aces. Tyger hit at a .375 clip in the match and Hannum hit .455.

Once again, the freshmen setters split time on the floor and handed out a total of 40 assists. Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) dished out 28 and added four digs, while Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) posted 12 assists.

Defensively, junior Ricky Budar (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way with five digs.

Stevens is back on the road on Wednesday, February 15, as the Ducks travel to SUNY New Paltz for another UVC matchup at 7 p.m. New Paltz went 2-1 this weekend and holds an overall record of 9-2 as the No. 15 team in the country.
