Dickinson Too Much For Baseball, 12-1

Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 14, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team lost its third game in a row in a 12-1 outcome to Dickinson College at the Chain of Lakes Complex in Winter Haven, Florida on March 14. The Ducks only managed four hits in the loss, as they fell to 6-5 on season. Stevens has one more game tomorrow against SUNY Brockport at 9:30 a.m. before flying back to Hoboken.

Graduate student infielder Matt Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J.) was the Ducks' top performer at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a walk.

Freshman outfielder Brian Hennelly (Holbrook, N.J.) and freshman catcher Matt O'Brien (Goffstown, N.H.) picked up the other two hits for the Ducks in the contest. Hennelly batted 1-for-4, while O'Brien was 1-for-3 off the bench.

Stevens' leadoff hitter and senior infielder Tom Phillips (Spring Lake, N.J.) walked and stole a base. Three other Ducks, sophomore outfielder Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and freshmen infielder Marc Calleo (Bayville, N.Y.) and Gregg Nickels (Simpsonville, S.C.) all walked, while senior outfielder Ryan Kiczek (Rutherford, N.J.) reached base on a hit by pitch.

Freshman Peirce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.) got the starting nod and tossed 5.1 innings to suffer the loss. Marston surrendered 10 hits and seven runs (five earned) while striking out three batters and walking one more.

Fellow freshman John Howarth (Fanwood, N.J.) was first out of the bullpen and threw 1.1 innings in relief and allowed four runs on six hits. Senior Chris Tucci (Calverton, N.Y.) gave up two hits in an inning of work before giving way to graduate student Jeffrey Hart (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.), who threw the final inning and walked two batters and allowed one run.

After tomorrow morning's game against Brockport, Stevens will host Lehman College on Saturday, March 17 for a 4:30 p.m. game. On Sunday, the Ducks will entertain the City College of New York for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
