Men's Volleyball Falls in Hard Fought Five-Set Match to NYU

Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. (March 21, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to United Volleyball Conference rival New York University on Wednesday evening, March 21st. Stevens falls to 19-5 overall this season and 9-2 in the UVC. The Ducks lost the first two sets, 26-24, 34-32, but bounced back with 25-20, 25-19 wins to force a fifth set, but fell, 15-13.

Sophomore outside hitter David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) led Stevens with 17 and hit .302. Evans also recorded six digs, while sophomore outside hitter Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) registered 14 kills and four blocks with a hitting percentage of .375.

Also posting double-digit kills, junior outside hitter Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) added 13 kills and seven digs. Junior middle hitter Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) hit an impressive .583 with nine kills in 12 attempts and chipped in six total blocks.

In only three sets played, freshman middle hitter Etan Bennett (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied six kills and five blocks with a .455 hitting percentage. Freshman opposite hitter Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) added eight kills and six blocks.

Freshmen setters Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y) and Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) combined for 63 assists in the setback. Aeckerle led the way with 41 helpers to go along with nine digs, while Schlosser handed out 22 assists and added five digs.

As a team, the Ducks recorded 46 digs, 14 of which went to junior Ricky Budar (Honolulu, Hawaii) with eight, and senior Wojciech Gajda (Woodside, N.Y.) with six.

Stevens also posted 15 total blocks at the net and outhit the Violets, .298 to .239.

On Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, Stevens will travel up to Beverly, Mass. for a two-day tournament at Endicott College. The Ducks will play Massachusetts Institute of Technology and SUNYIT on the 24th.
