Two Wins for Men's Volleyball on First Day of Endicott Tournament

(March 24, 2012) – The nationally ranked No. 5 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team picked up two wins on the first day at the Endicott College Tournament in Beverly, Mass. on March 24. Stevens defeated No. 8 Massachusetts Institute of Technology and SUNY IT, 3-0, to improve to 21-5 on the season. The Ducks will play two more matches tomorrow to wrap up competition at Endicott.

The Ducks took down MIT in the opening match, 25-17, 26-24, 25-19, handing the Engineers their seventh loss of the season. Stevens then swept SUNY IT, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21, to complete a perfect first day.

Against MIT, sophomore outside hitter David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) paced the Ducks with 10 kills in 19 attempts, while junior middle hitter Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) hit .636 with seven kills in 11 tries. Evans recorded six digs and Modestow chipped in six blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman opposite hitter Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) each tallied six kills. Tyger also made six blocks.

Junior outside hitter Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) led Stevens with seven digs to go along with five kills.

The setting duo combined for 30 assists against MIT, as freshman Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) handed out 18, and freshman Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) dished out 12, to go along with six digs.

Against SUNY IT, Seifert led the way with eight kills, while Hannum was right behind with six.

Schlosser posted a game-high 21 assists and also added four kills, while Tyger and sophomore outside hitter Paul Dubuke (Camarillo, Calif.) posted five kills.

As a team, the Ducks recorded 37 digs in the sweep of SUNY IT.


On Sunday, Stevens takes on No. 10 Rivier College at 12 p.m., in its first match, and then squares off against Johnson & Wales University-Rhode Island at 4 p.m.
