Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 1, 2012) – In the first doubleheader of the Empire 8 Conference schedule for the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team, the Ducks split with nationally ranked No. 20 Ithaca College on Sunday, April 1 at Dobbelaar Field. Stevens dropped Game One, 9-2, but bounced back to take the night cap, 10-6. The Ducks are now 14-9 overall this season and 1-2 in the Empire 8.

Graduated student infielder Matt Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J.) led Stevens offensively in both games, going a combined 5-for-8 with two homeruns and five runs batted in. Glassman stroked a first inning solo shot in the opener and singled, then blasted a three-run homer in Game Two as part of a 3-for-5 night cap. Glassman's three-run shot also happened to be his 100th career hit as a Duck.

In Game One, Glassman was the only Duck to record a multi-hit game, while seven others picked up one base hit in the loss.

Senior outfielder Ryan Kiczek (Rutherford, N.J.) doubled in three trips to the plate, while freshman infielder Marc Calleo (Bayville, N.Y.) scored a run and singled in three at bats.

Sophomore catcher Matt O'Brien (Goffstown, N.H.) drove in the other run in two at bats with a single.

On the mound, sophomore Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) earned the start but was roughed up for nine runs over 2.2 innings pitch to suffer the loss. Allen also singled in four at bats. A trio of freshmen saw action out of the bullpen for the remainder of the opener, as Peirce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.) was first out and gave up four hits in 1.1 innings of work and struck out one. Next out was Casey Conroy (High Bridge, N.J.) who sat down three Bombers in 2.1 innings and allowed two hits. Daniel Frischman (Short Hills, N.J.) tossed the final two-thirds of an inning and walked a batter.

In the nightcap thriller, Glassman and two other Ducks, freshman outfielder Brian Hennelly (Holbrook, N.Y.) and senior designated hitter TJ Alcorn (Turnersville, N.J.) pounded round trippers in the 10-6 victory. Hennelly homered in the fourth inning as part of a four-run frame that tied the ball game up. After Glassman's homer in the seventh, Alcorn sent a fastball in the solar panels of right field to cap off the five-run inning that gave Stevens a comfortable 10-4 lead. The 10 runs scored ties for the most runs allowed by Ithaca this season, who brought a 2.56 earned run average into today's double dip.

Hennelly batted 2-for-4 in Game Two, while Alcorn went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk.

Senior infielder Tom Phillips (Spring Lake, N.J.) walked three times and scored twice in two official trips to the plate, while Calleo collected two hits and an RBI in the win.

Freshman outfielder Ryan Mannello (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in a run on a single and walked in three at bats. Mannello also threw one-third of an inning in relief and surrendered two runs on four hits.

Junior Tyler Courter (Glenwood, N.J.) earned his fourth win of the season in seven innings pitched. Courter scattered eight hits and allowed four runs (three earned) and struck out two batters while walking two more. Senior Chris Tucci (Calverton, N.Y.) threw a perfect two-thirds of an inning in the eighth, before giving way to fellow senior John Martelle (Colonia, N.J.) to close out the game with two strike outs in a perfect ninth inning.

Stevens will be back on the diamond for three games against Utica College on April 6 and 7 in Utica, N.Y. for another Empire 8 showdown. The Ducks and Pioneers will play two games on the 6th starting at 2 p.m. and finish up with an 11 a.m. nine-inning affair on the 7th.
