Men's Volleyball Sweeps in Season Finale

Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 18, 2012) – In the regular season finale for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team, ranked sixth in the country, the Ducks swept in three sets Baruch College in Canavan Arena on Senior Night. Stevens finishes the season with a 28-8 overall record and drops No.13 Baruch to 23-16 on the year before the Bearcats begin NCAA Division III postseason play in Springfield, Mass. on April 27-29.

In the three-set sweep, 27-25, 25-17, 25-20, sophomore outside hitter Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) led all players with 14 kills in 21 attempts for a hitting percentage of .571. Junior outside hitter Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) also eclipsed double-digit kills with 10 and a .438 hitting percentage. Hannum also recorded three digs and a service ace.

Sophomore outside hitter David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) chipped in nine kills, eight digs and three total blocks in the sweep, while freshman middle hitter Etan Bennett (Rochester, N.Y.) hit a flat .500 on the night with seven kills in 12 chances.

Freshmen setters Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) and Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) combined for 43 assists, eight digs and three service aces. Aeckerle handed out a team-best 22 assists to go along with seven digs, while Schlosser dished out 21 helpers and led everyone on the court with three aces.

The lone senior on the team, libero Wojciech Gajda (Woodside, N.Y.) tallied five digs, while freshman opposite hitter Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) recorded seven kills.

Stevens hit .320 as a team in the victory to Baruch's .260. The Ducks also scored on eight service aces, while the Bearcats could only come up with two.

The 28 victories by Stevens this year ranks as the third most ever in the program's 23-year history. Stevens has not won this many matches since 2007, when the Ducks went 33-9.
