HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 15, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team dismantled St. John Fisher College 9-0 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Hoboken. The Ducks won 96 of the 103 games played and
Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.) and
Lexie Handel (Sparta, N.J.) did not lose a game all afternoon, posting 20-0 cumulative scores at doubles and singles.
Stevens lost just one doubles game in the first three matches. Stewart and
Julia Guignard (Lowville, N.Y.) won 8-0 at twos and Handel and
Nathalie Tran (Livingston, N.J.) also swept at threes.
Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) and
Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) surrendered just one game to win 8-1 at first doubles.
Each singles match was over nearly as quick; Bourque, Stewart and Handel all swept their matchups 6-0, 6-0. Tessitore, Guignard and Tran also won in straight sets as the squad helped send its Duck Country crowd home happy.
Stevens will play again Sunday at 12 p.m. against Alfred University, another Empire 8 tangle at the Stevens Tennis Courts.
