HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 6, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team dropped a pair of conference matches Sunday to Empire 8 rivals Ithaca College and Elmira College.
The two losses are the first of the year for Stevens as the Ducks drop to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the Empire 8. Ithaca moved to 7-0 overall and in the conference, while Elmira moves to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the E8.

The Bombers took two of the three doubles points, with senior
Lisa Tessitore and junior
Jessica Bourque notching a win at first doubles, 8-2 over Christina Nunez and Allison Young.
From that point, Ithaca controlled the match, earning wins at fourth, fifth and sixth singles to clinch the match that was delayed and moved indoors because of weather.
In singles, Nunez and Bourque were tied at No. 1 when the match ended.
Elmira 5, Stevens 3
Bourque and Tessitore once again got the Ducks started on the right foot with an 8-0 No. 1 doubles win, but the Soaring Eagles earned tight victories by scores of 8-6 and 8-5 out of the second and third slots to head into singels action up 2-1.
Bourque continued her strong play, rolling 6-0, 6-0 over Amy Schmidt out of the first flight, and junior
Danielle Stewart won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 to account for the Stevens points.
Elmira won at fourth, fifth and sixth singles via straight sets to clinch the dual-match win.
Stevens will return to action at the ITA Small College National Championships where Bourque and Tessitore will compete in doubles action. It is the first time Stevens has sent individuals to the competition. The team will return to action at the 2013 Empire 8 Championship in Ithaca. The Ducks will be the third seed in the tournament.
