Men’s Volleyball Loses in Four to NJIT

Box Score NEWARK, N.J. (February 6, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team played its third NCAA Division I school in the early season and fell in four sets to New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark on Wednesday evening. Stevens is now 4-3 on the season and 1-2 against DI counterparts.

Three of the four sets ended within a three-point spread, but the Ducks were on the wrong end of two of them. NJIT took the match, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 25-17, for its second victory of the year.

Junior Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) recorded a match-high-tying 17 kills in 36 attempts and was the lone Duck to surpass double-digit kills in the match. Seifert also tallied nine digs, five total blocks and 19.5 points.

Sophomore Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) handed out a team-best 38 assists and accounted for all but three helpers from the team. Aeckerle posted six digs, two blocks and one of the team's two service aces.

Stevens finished the match with 20 block assists and senior Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) led the way with six. Modestow also chipped in six kills from the middle, while classmate Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) registered nine kills and eight digs.

Freshman Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) accumulated 13 digs from the back row, and junior David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) added nine digs to go along with five kills.

Stevens hit .300 and .444 in the first two sets but struggled in the final two, hitting only .057 and -.034.

The Ducks will travel to Medaille College this weekend for the first United Volleyball Conference crossover for three matches beginning at 1 p.m. on February 9 against Medaille. Stevens will then take on Elmira College at 5 p.m. and wrap up the weekend on the 10th against D'Youville College at 11 a.m.
