No. 6 Men’s Volleyball Notches 20th Win of Season over NJCU

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (March 20, 2013) – The nationally ranked No. 6 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team picked up its 20th victory of the season with a 3-1 win over New Jersey City University on the road Wednesday evening. Stevens had won the previous 15 meetings between the two schools by 3-0 match scores before tonight's contest.

The Ducks (20-6) cruised past NJCU (16-11), 25-12, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17, with a team hitting percentage of .386 and 10.5 total blocks. Six members of the Stevens team notched hitting clips over .364 with over four kill attempts. At the service line, the Ducks accumulated 12 service aces behind two each from five players, compared to just three from the Gothic Knights.

In the first set, Stevens hit for an impressive .692 hitting percentage with 10 kills in 13 tries. In sets two and three, the Ducks hit .400 and .455, respectively.

Senior Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) led the Ducks with a match-best .636 attack percentage in 11 attempts with eight kills. Junior David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) added seven kills and a .400 percentage to go along with three digs and two service aces.

Juniors Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) and Tyler Mackanin (Rocklin, Calif.) both tallied six kills in 11 tries. Seifert chipped in three blocks and two aces, while Mackanin recorded three digs.

At the net, senior Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) paced all players with six total blocks and added three kills in four swings.

All three setters for the Ducks saw action and combined for 40 of the team's 44 assists. Sophomore Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) handed out the most with 18 in two sets, while classmate Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) and freshman John Eddins (Kula, Hawaii) each dished out 11.

Stevens will be back on the court this weekend in a tri-match at home against New York University at 6 p.m. and Cairn University at 8 p.m. on Friday evening. Friday also marks the team's Duck Country event. It will be the first home matches for the Ducks since February 16.
