HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 12, 2013) – Three Stevens Institute of Technology teams will be hosting events in what should be a busy and exciting weekend for all. All students, fans, alums, staff, faculty and community members are urged to come out to watch some or all of the great NCAA Division III action!
Women's volleyball opens its home schedule with a tournament Friday and Saturday, field hockey begins its Empire 8 campaign Saturday at 1 p.m. with a tough game against archrival Washington & Jefferson College and men's soccer hosts cross-river rival New York University to cap things off Saturday night in a key non-conference match.
Women's volleyball starts its weekend with its first home battle of the season, squaring off vs. SUNY Geneseo, Friday night at 8 p.m. in Canavan Arena. Any fan that follows @stevensducks on Twitter and "likes" Stevens Athletics on Facebook will receive one of three different giveaways, and the department will be giving out free pizza at 7:30 p.m.
The Ducks – who have started the season 9-0 – will return to the court Saturday for matches at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. against FDU-Florham and Kean University.
Kicking off Saturday's outdoor action at the De Baun Athletic Complex, Stevens field hockey will open its Empire 8 slate against W&J at 1 p.m. The Presidents and Ducks are consistently two of the top teams in the conference with Stevens winning both matchups a year ago.
Closing out the Saturday ledger will be No. 2/3 men's soccer squaring off with the Violets. Last year, Stevens fell at NYU, 1-0, so the Ducks should be extra-motivated for this tilt. Prior to the contest, there will be a tailgate for all Stevens students on Palmer Lawn. There will be a giveaway upon entrance, and at halftime there will be the largest contest in the history of Stevens Athletics – "Rocks, Paper, Scissors, Shoot" for any fan interested. That contest will have up to 10 winners with one grand prize.
