ONEONTA, N.Y. (September 8, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team picked up its third win in as many matches this fall with a 6-3 victory at Empire 8 Athletic Conference rival Hartwick College on Sunday afternoon.
Stevens sports a 3-0 mark in conference play to start the season while Hartwick drops to 1-2 on the year.
The Ducks scored a pair of points in the doubles matches as junior
Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) and senior
Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) swept their opponents at first doubles and juniors
Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.) and
Elena Cocineva-Lenge (Chester, N.J.) took second doubles, 8-2. Hartwick picked up a point at third doubles as freshman
Lily Bruenjes (Portland, Maine) and sophomore
Arden Servidio (Nutley, N.J.) dropped a tight battle, 8-6.
The top of the Stevens lineup made short work of the Hawks as Bourque took first singles, 6-0, 6-1, Tessitore won at second singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Stewart closed out third singles, 6-0, 6-3 to clinch the match. Freshman
Jillian Morneau (Beverly, Mass.) also picked up the win in a back-and-forth affair at sixth singles, 6-2, 0-6, 10-3.
Cocineva-Lenge took a tough loss at fourth singles, winning the first set, 6-3, but dropping the next two, 6-2 and 10-7, while Servidio fell quickly at #5, 6-1, 6-0.
Head Coach
Steve Gachko and the Ducks will head back upstate next weekend to face St. John Fisher College (0-2, 0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 14 and Alfred University (1-1, 1-0) on Sunday, Sept. 15.
