Fourth-Ranked Hopkins Tops Men’s Swimming

BALTIMORE, Md. (January 18, 2014)
 – The No. 4 Johns Hopkins University men's swimming team defeated seventh-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, 159-95, Saturday in Baltimore.
 
The 200-yard medley relay was the first event of the day, and the team of sophomore Ravi Sun, sophomore Joshua Lefeber, junior John Rees and senior Tyler Hessler placed third with a time of 1:37.04.
 
Freshman Mark Lippert earned a fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:04.76), with freshman Tomasz Wolinski pocketing a third thanks to a 1:45.33 in the 200-yard freestyle.
 
Sun and senior Shawn Hanak went two-three in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 52.26 and 53.23, while Lefeber was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.47). Senior Joe Huyett and Hessler took second and third place with times of 21.95 and 22.00 in the 50-yard freestyle, and Wolinski paced the Ducks with a third in the 100-yard freestyle thanks to a 47.21.
 
Sun and senior Nick Noga were second and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking finishes of 1:56.35 and 2:00.94, while sophomore Dane Pilcher was third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.02).
 
Senior Conor Arcuri was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.15, with Rees turning in the second-best time in the 100-yard butterfly. Sun had the second-best time in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.72), with the team of Wolinski, Lefeber, Noga and Hanak doing the same in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.64).
 
Stevens, now 2-1 on the year, will return to action with a home dual-meet February 1 versus Hartwick College at 12 p.m. Prior to the meet, the Ducks will honor their seniors as part of Senior Day and all the action will be webcast live at www.Empire8.TV
