ALLENTOWN, Pa. (October 1, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team kept their undefeated season alive Wednesday with a 6-3 win over Muhlenberg College.
The win moves Stevens' record to 8-0 while Muhlenberg dropped to 0-2.
The Ducks jumped out to lead early thanks to two straight wins to open doubles. Senior
Jessica Bourque and junior
Alexis Connor started the winning with an 8-2 win at No. 1 followed by an 8-3 win at No. 2 for senior
Danielle Stewart and freshman
Katrina Guido.
The win was the third of the season for Bourque and Connor while Stewart and Guido stayed perfect at 8-0.
After Muhlenberg rebounded with a win at third doubles, Bourque picked up a win at first singles when sophomore Sara Finger had to retire the match to extend the Stevens lead to 3-1. Muhlenberg rallied though, taking wins at No. 3 and No. 4, but Connor answered with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 followed by Stewart's third set tiebreaker win over senior Jennifer Goldberg at No. 2.
The win was Stewart's team-leading ninth of the season while Connor saw her singles record rise to 5-1.
