HOBOKEN, N.J. (
October 17, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team will look to make program history this weekend when they host the Empire 8 Conference Championship.

The top seeded Ducks (10-0, 8-0) will host No. 4 Alfred University in the semifinal match on Saturday with a chance to play either No. 2 Ithaca College or No. 3 Elmira College in Sunday's final. Stevens has never won an Empire 8 Championship.

SCOUTING STEVENS

Senior Danielle Stewart led the Ducks this fall with nine wins in singles, followed by sophomore Allie Masciana with eight, and junior Alexis Connor and freshman Kartrina Guido with seven. Senior Jessica Bourque went 5-0 from the No. 1 spot after missing the first five matches due to injury.

In doubles, Stewart and Guido have been perfect at 10-0 while Bourque and Connor went 5-0 after both returned from injuries midway through the season.

STEVENS VS. THE FIELD

The Ducks won convincingly 9-0 over first round opponent Alfred on Sep. 14 in a match where they didn't drop a set. Against Ithaca, Stevens picked up its fifth doubles sweep of the season before Bourque and Connor won in singles to clinch the win. Against Elmira, Stevens won at first and second doubles before wins at first, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles.

MOMENTUM RIDERS

Bourque enters the weekend riding a five match win streak in singles dual matches while Connor has won six in a row. In doubles, sophomore Jillian Morneau has yet to lose this season while compiling five wins.

RECENT HISTORY

Ithaca has won nine consecutive championships dating back to 2005 with five of those finals matches coming against Stevens. The Ducks have made the finals in four of the last five seasons.

HOBOKEN HOSTS

Weather permitting, Stevens will take on Alfred at 10 a.m. before Ithaca battles Elmira at 2 p.m. on the Stevens tennis courts. Sunday's final is scheduled for 11 a.m.

If rain is in the forecast, Saturday's matches will be moved to the Washington Township Tennis & Fitness Club in Washington Twp., N.J. with Sunday's rain site scheduled for the Binghampton Racquet Club in Edgewater.
