HOBOKEN, N.J. (December 5, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team will conclude the 2014 portion of its schedule on the road Saturday at 3 p.m. with a matchup against Vassar College.
Both the Ducks (4-1) and Vassar (4-2) enter the game riding four game win streaks.
SCOUTING VASSAR Junior Caitlin Drakeley has scored 20 points in four of Vassar's six games so far this year and leads the Brewers with 21 points and nine rebounds respectively per game. Senior Allyson Pemberton is Vassar's only other double digit scorer at 11.2 points per game, while junior Colleen O'Connell averages 8.2 rebounds per game.
As a team, Vassar has outscored opponents by an average of 4.8 points while shooting 38 percent from the field. The Brewers are looking for their third straight 20-win season this winter.
GET TO KNOW THE DUCKS Stevens has sported a balanced scoring attack so far this season with five different players averaging at least seven points per game. Junior
Kaitlyn Astel has been the Ducks leading scorer at 12.4 points per game while junior
Dylan Krause and sophomore
Brittany Washington are pulling down eight and 7.6 rebounds a game respectively.
As a team, the Ducks are outscoring their opponents by nearly 10 points per game.
ASTEL AWARENESS Since scoring eight points in the season opener, Astel has scored in double figures for the Ducks in every game since. Her 62 total points leads the team.
GLASS WORK Stevens has out-rebounded its opponent in three of its four wins and is averaging six more rebounds per game than the opposition. Astel, Krause, Washington, and freshman
Megan Brown make up the Ducks quartet of forwards averaging at least five rebounds per game.
LONG TIME NO SEE Stevens played Vassar for three straight seasons from 2005-2008 with the Ducks coming away with two double digit wins.
LEAD BUILDERS During their four game win streak, the Ducks have held double digit leads at some point in each game. Stevens went on to win by that margin in two of those games.
CONFERENCE LEADERS The Ducks scoring average of 67.6 points per game is good for second in the Empire 8 Conference. Stevens currently leads the conference in scoring margin, field goal percentage, and free throw percentage.
