HOUGHTON, N.Y. (February 15, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team improved to 16-7 with a 100-59 win at Houghton College Saturday afternoon.
 
A season-high 13 different players scored points as the Ducks shot 51.5 percent for the game, including 9-for-17 (52.9 percent) from three and 23-for-39 (59 percent) at the line. The Ducks tallied 20 assists as a team and committed just 12 turnovers, compiling eight total steals and four blocked shots.
 
Junior forward Patrick Sabatino (Westfield, N.J.) led the Ducks with 14 points, with sophomore guard Evan Klimchak (Readington, N.J.) scoring 10 points. Freshman forward Ian Bennett (Menlo Park, Calif.) and senior guard Phillip DeSeignora (Boston, Mass.) each scored 10 points on a combined 8-for-11 shooting, while senior guard Matt Skrelja (Clark, N.J.) had seven points, seven rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Andrew Meszaros (Phoenixville, Pa.) had nine points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals, while junior forward Kenny Gan (Hillsborough, N.J.) notched nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sophomore forward Alex Lorenz (Point Pleasant, N.J.) had eight points, five rebounds and two blocks, with freshman guard Patrick Barron (Long Valley, N.J.) tallying seven points.
 
Leading 14-13 with 12:48 to play in the first half, the Ducks closed the half with a 37-12 run to take a 51-25 lead into the locker room. A Sabatino three-pointer with 12:28 on the clock sparked the run and his layup with 10:07 to play in the opening period gave the Ducks a 26-16 lead. The lead moved to 22 points (38-16) thanks to Klimchak's second three-pointer of the first half.
 
A Gan layup with 15:43 left in the second half marked the first 30-point advantage of the afternoon for Stevens, and a layin from freshman guard Michael Langford (Staten Island, N.Y.) gave the Ducks their first 40-point edge of the day.
 
The 100 points is the second-highest total of the season for Stevens and the 41-point win is the team's largest of the year.
 
The Ducks are currently at the top of the conference standings with a record of 9-3 and two conference contests remaining. Alfred University, Nazareth College and Hartwick College are all one-game back at 8-4 and St. John Fisher College is in fifth place at 9-5. The top-four teams reach the conference tournament with the regular-season champ hosting the Empire 8 Tournament on February 28 and March 1.
 
Stevens visits Hartwick College Tuesday night in a huge game beginning at 6 p.m. The Ducks then host Elmira College Friday night at 6 p.m. in the regular-season finale at the Canavan Arena. Tiebreakers aside, Stevens will earn the regular-season title and ability to host the conference tournament with wins in its final two games.
