NEW YORK, N.Y. (February 21, 2014) – The nationally ranked No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team defeated 14th-ranked Stevenson University in four sets in the first match of the Baruch College Tournament on Friday night in New York City.
Stevens (7-4) claimed the win, 25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 25-20, on a .291 hitting percentage (50 kills, 16 errors, 117 attempts). The Ducks excelled in sets three and four with hitting percentages of .364 and .484, respectively. In the set two loss, Stevens hit at just a .043 clip.
Junior
Daniel Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) hit .667 overall on 10 kills in 15 swings, while classmate
Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) dished out 36 assists and completed his double-double with a match-high 12 digs.
Sophomore
Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) paced the Ducks with 14 kills and hit .294 to go along with nine digs. Freshman
Gabe Shankweiler (Allentown, Pa.) narrowly missed a double-double as well with 13 kills and nine digs.
Sophomore
John Eddins (Kula, Hawaii) added seven kills, seven digs, six assists, two blocks and two service aces.
Stevens plays Emmanuel College at 10 a.m. tomorrow and wraps up the tournament with a 12 p.m. match against No. 2 Rivier University.
