NEW YORK, N.Y. (February 22, 2014) – The No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team took down No. 2 Rivier University and Emmanuel College on Sunday on the final day of the Baruch College Tournament in New York City.
With the pair of victories, Stevens (9-4) has won eight of its last nine matches after a 1-3 start. The Ducks swept Emmanuel in the opener, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21, and then dropped second-ranked Rivier in four sets, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, to cap off the perfect weekend.

In the straight sets win over Emmanuel, freshman
Gabe Shankweiler (Allentown, Pa.) paced the Ducks with 11 kills and five service aces. Shankweiler also tallied nine digs to go along with three blocks.
Sophomore
Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) reached 10 kills on 20 attempts with one error (.450 hitting percentage) and added five digs with three blocks. Classmate
Alexander Carpenter (Delaware, Ohio) recorded seven total blocks and four kills, while sophomore
John Eddins (Kula, Hawaii) put down six kills with five digs.
Junior
Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) dished out 30 assists and added seven digs and three blocks. Fellow junior
Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) chipped in nine digs, while junior
Daniel Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) had four kills, three blocks and an ace.
As a team, the Ducks registered 10.5 blocks on 17 assists and two solos. Stevens also benefited from 14 service errors by Emmanuel.
Stevens 3, Rivier 1
In the biggest victory of the season thus far for Stevens over No. 2 Rivier, Shankweiler hit at a .370 clip with a match-high 22 kills. He also added four digs, an ace and a block.
Vaughan hit .400 with 14 kills on 25 swings to go along with nine digs, two aces and two blocks, while Smith recorded nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage with three blocks.
Aeckerle handed out a match-best 49 assists, while Carpenter chipped in five kills (.333%) and five total blocks.
Eddins concluded his day with seven more kills, three blocks and two assists. Schlosser added six digs.
Stevens hit .357 in the match and never hit below .379 in its three set wins. The Ducks also recorded 8.5 more blocks as a team.
Stevens will continue to ride its hot streak into a United Volleyball Conference contest with Bard College on February 26 in Canavan Arena at 7 p.m.
