HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 28, 2014) – The nationally ranked No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team battled with second-ranked Juniata College on Friday night, but fell in three sets in Canavan Arena.
Stevens (10-5) pushed Juniata (15-2) to extra points in the first two sets, only to fall 27-25 and 26-24. The Eagles secured the sweep with a 25-17 victory in set three. Juniata outhit the Ducks, .340 to .118, but allowed Stevens to stay within striking distance all match by committing 19 service errors. The Eagles were relentless at the net, tallying 9.5 total blocks to 4.5 for Stevens.
In the first set which witnessed 19 ties and two lead changes, the Ducks benefitted from nine service errors from Juniata. The Ducks final lead of the set came at 11-9, but after Juniata scored the next two points, they could never regain the edge. Sophomore
Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) put down four kills with five digs in the set to lead Stevens.
Juniata hit .300 in the set, while the Ducks swung at just a .057 clip.
Set two was much of the same as the first, but Stevens was much more efficient in hitting percentage, as it wrapped up the game at a .320 clip. The Ducks fell behind after the first point and never led, but were able to draw the set to six ties. Sophomore
John Eddins (Kula, Hawaii) tallied four kills in the set with three assists.
Stevens was overmatched in the third set, as Juniata hit .480 to .000 for the Ducks.

Gabe Shankweiler (Allentown, Pa.) each added four kills.

Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) handed out a team-best 15 assists, while Eddins dished out 11 more.

Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) all registered seven digs in the loss. Aeckerle and Eddins finished with five digs.
Juniata's Alex McColgin and Joe Bortak both reach double-digits kills with 13 and 11, respectively. Matt Elias handed out 40 assists and Eric McCarthy posted 15 digs. Chad Albert chipped in eight kills and six blocks.
Stevens returns to action on March 4 at home against Dominican University at 7 p.m.
