No. 8 Men’s Volleyball Wins Third Straight at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. (March 26, 2014) – The nationally ranked No. 8 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team improved to 15-7 on the season with a 3-1 victory at Ramapo College on Wednesday evening. Stevens has now won three straight matches over the past four days and moved up two spots in the latest AVCA Top 15 Poll.

The Ducks (15-7) took down Ramapo (18-8) in a tightly contested match, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20. Over the four sets, there were 19 ties and eight lead changes. Stevens outhit the Roadrunners, .262 to .201, and recorded seven more kills (56 to 49). Both teams played well defensively with a combined 112 digs – 58 for Stevens and 54 for Ramapo.

Freshman Gabe Shankweiler (Allentown, Pa.) led all players with 18 kills on 46 swings (.326 hitting percentage) and added five digs with two assists.

Junior Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) and sophomore Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) both tallied double-doubles in the win. Aeckerle dished out a match-high 47 assists with 14 digs, while Vaughan registered 11 kills and 13 digs.

Fellow junior Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) notched a career-high 17 digs to anchor the Ducks' defense. Classmate Daniel Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) hit at a .545 clip with six kills in 11 attempts with no errors with two digs and the team's lone ace.

Sophomore John Eddins (Kula, Hawaii) chipped in nine kills and five digs, while sophomore Alexander Carpenter (Delaware, Ohio) recorded five kills. Freshman Jordan Stuart (Huntington Beach, Calif.) picked up five kills in 10 tries and led the Ducks with four total blocks.

Stevens will look to continue its winning streak at Cairn University in Langhorne, Pa. this weekend. The Ducks open the tri-match on March 29 against Eastern Mennonite University at 4 p.m. and then take on Cairn at 6 p.m.
