HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 5, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to The College of New Jersey on Saturday in a windy, inter-state match-up.
 
The loss drops Stevens to 8-7, while TCNJ moved to 9-3.
 
TCNJ took the first two points of the match when freshman Anna Prestera and junior Sarah Lippincott knocked-off sophomore Julia Guignard and freshman Lily Bruenjes in third doubles 8-0, followed by a win at first doubles for sophomores Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen over senior Lisa Tessitore and junior Jessica Bourque 8-2.
 
The Lions finished the doubles sweep with freshman Katie Buchbinder and senior Tara Criscuolo's 8-4 win at No. 2 over junior Danielle Stewart and sophomore Alexis Connor.
 
Lippincott extended the TCNJ lead at sixth singles with a straight-set win over Bruenjez, then clinched the match at fifth singles with Prestera's 6-1, 6-2 win over Connor.
 
TCNJ took the next point with a straight-set win at No. 2, then another at No. 4 when Allen beat Guignard 6-2, 6-0 over Guignard. At third singles, after Tessitore took the first set 6-4, Criscuolo came-back with a 6-2 win in the second before edging Tessitore in the third-set tiebreaker 10-4.
 
The Ducks picked-up their point at No. 1 with Bourque's come-from-behind win. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Bourque took the second 6-2, then completed the win with a tiebreaker win in the third 10-6.
 
"It was a great experience for us to play a tough match versus a very strong TCNJ team," assistant coach Arik Zeevy said. "We'll continue to develop and improve for the fall season."
