HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 2, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team – coming off back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament – will open its 2015 season at the University of Hawaii on January 3.
The 2015 Ducks return just about every contributor from the 2014 team that reached the national quarterfinals for a second-straight year and finished the season with an overall mark of 22-10.
Following its match against Hawaii in Manoa, the Ducks will journey back to Hoboken to return to practice before opening up the balance of their schedule in mid-January. The Ducks will visit DI Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. on January 17 and visit York College (N.Y.) on Janauary 21 before hosting a pair of home non-conference matches in the Canavan Arena against Cairn University and in-state rival Ramapo College on January 28 & 31.
The Ducks will host nine home matches this year on seven dates during the regular season as the team eyes a third trip to the 'Big Dance' in four seasons since the first NCAA Division III Tournament in 2012. This year – 2015 – Stevens Institute of Technology will be hosting the eight-team national tournament in Hoboken at the Canavan Arena.
In addition to in-state rival Ramapo, other key home matches will be against DI NJIT, Vassar College and cross-river rival New York University.
United Volleyball Conference play begins February 14 and ends March 28 with the eight-team UVC Tournament being played at the conference's regular-season champ April 10, 11 and 12.
The NCAA Division III Championship will take place April 24, 25 and 26 in Hoboken.
Saturday's season-opener at UH will take place at the Stan Sherriff Center in Honolulu. Hawaii is ranked No. 10 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I poll. Due to most Division III schools starting play later in January, the AVCA will release its DIII poll on January 13. The UVC will also release its preseason poll in the coming days.
