HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 5, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's and women's fencing teams hosted New York University and New Jersey Institute of Technology Thursday night in Canavan Arena.
WOMEN'S RESULTSKeyed by comfortable wins at foil and sabre, the Ducks cruised to a 21-6 victory over NJIT to open the meet.
Senior
Caroleen Chen, sophomore
Karen Kong, and sophomore
Erin Hatcher led the Ducks at foil, sabre, and epee respectively by each going 3-0. Sophomore
Abby Kaye went 2-1 at foil, while junior
Jenny Drozd and freshman
Madeleine Daniell each went 2-0 at sabre.
The Ducks followed up the win later in the night with a 16-11 victory over local rival NYU to complete the undefeated evening.
Freshmen
Michelle Drobish and
Julia Yang led the Ducks with 2-1 records at sabre, while Hatcher and freshman Julia McEldeen followed suit with 2-1 nights at epee.
At foil, Kate and Chen both went 2-1 as well to round out the Stevens scoring.
MEN'S RESULTSThe Ducks fell to NJIT 15-12 to open the meet despite multiple win-evenings for several fencers.
Freshman
Ryan Edelstein led the Ducks with a 2-1 record at foil, while freshman
Wesley McDowell and sophomore
Ian Fan went 2-1 at sabre. At epee, junior
Stephen Rienzi went 2-1 to go along with wins for senior
Logan Koester and freshman
Leonard Behrens.
Stevens also fell in its second matchup against NYU, despite a 3-0 foil performance from senior
Daniel Tracey, and two-win nights from Edelstein, McDowell, and Koester.
BACK TO THE STRIPSThe men will be back in action tomorrow starting at 6 p.m. with the Columbia Duals, while the women will return to the strips on Nov. 15 with the Vassar Invitational.
