HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 4, 2016) – After sweeping the Clash at Kean tournament last weekend, the No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team is back in action Friday night, taking on Division I Sacred Heart University.
MATCH INFOThe Ducks will travel to Fairfield, Conn. to take on the Pioneers, with first serve scheduled for 7p.m.
CLASH AT KEAN RECAP Stevens went a perfect 3-0 at the second annual tournament at Kean University, dropping only one set. They defeated Marymount University 3-1, Rivier College 3-0 and Lasell College 3-0.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERSSacred Heart is currently 0-6 on the year so far, and are coming off a loss to fellow United Volleyball Conference member SUNY-New Paltz last Wednesday. Junior Chris Delucie leads the Pioneers with 65 kills while Eduardo Zardo has dished out 167 assists.
RETURN TO FORMAfter missing a majority of last season with an injury, junior
Gabe Shankweiler has returned to the 2014 form where he was UVC Rookie of the Year. Through 13 sets, Shankweiler is tied for the team lead with 41 kills and is second with six service aces.
THREE HEADED MIDDLE MACHINESenior
Etan Bennett, junior
Jordan Stuart and sophomore
Thomas Burrell have all contributed at least 21 kills from the middle spot this year. Bennett has also seen time as an opposite, and the three have combined for 67 kills and 31.0 total blocks.
ACES WILDSenior
Tim Ferriter leads the club with seven service aces, and is third with 26 kills.
BLOCK PARTYThe Ducks hold a 38.0-23.0 edge over their opponents in total blocks through the five matches this year.
SETTING THE TONEJunior
Scott Russell was named to the All-Tournament team at the Clash last weekend, handing out 81 assists in eight sets while only committing five errors. Russell leads the team with 122 assists this year.
