Men’s Volleyball Set To Defend Championship

TOURNAMENT WEBSITE

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 21, 2016)
– The Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team takes on Rutgers University-Newark in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship Tournament.

GAME INFO
The teams will play at 3 p.m. at the Kidera Gym on the campus of Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y.

2015 REWIND
Last year, the Ducks captured the first NCAA team National Championship when they defeated Springfield College in straight sets, as senior Tim Ferriter was named Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

HOW THEY GOT HERE
Stevens claimed an at-large bid to the tournament after falling to No. 1 seed SUNY-New Paltz in the United Volleyball Conference finals on April 10.

RUTGERS REPORT
The Scarlet Raiders enter the match with a 24-3 overall record, and also earned an at-large bid to the dance after falling to Stevenson University in the Continental Volleyball Conference tournament finals.

I'VE SEEN YOU BEFORE
Stevens and Rutgers opened the season with a match at the Golden Dome Classic, with the host Scarlet Raiders coming out with a 3-0 win.

DUCKS VS. THE FIELD
The Ducks are 1-4 against the 10 teams that qualified for the NCAA Championship tournament, falling to SUNY-New Paltz twice and Carthage College in addition to Rutgers. The Ducks were able to top Hunter College in straight sets.

HISTORY!
Ferriter became just the third player to be named an AVCA First Team All-American in all of his years playing.

RETURN TO FORM
Senior Chris Vaughan was named an AVCA All-American for the second time in his career, as he was chosen to the Second Team. Junior Gabe Shankweiler also claimed All-American honors for the second, being chosen as an Honorable Mention selection.

SENIOR SENDOFF
The NCAA tournament marks the final appearances in a Duck uniform for six seniors; Ferriter, Vaughan, Etan Bennett, Scott Wright, John Eddins and Ayal Ciobotaru.
