No. 4 Men’s Volleyball Ready For UVC Tournament

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 7, 2016) – The No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team claimed the No. 2 seed in this weekends United Volleyball Conference Tournament.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS
On Friday, No. 5 MIT will take on No. 4 Nazareth College at 5 p.m. and No. 3 New York University takes No. 6 Vassar College in the nightcap. On Saturday, the game one winner takes on No. 1 SUNY-New Paltz while the game two advancer will battle Stevens. The two semifinals winners square off Sunday at 2 p.m. with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line.

GAME DETAILS
Stevens will be playing the winner of Vassar and NYU Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Hawk Center in New Paltz, N.Y.

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN
The winner of the tournament claims the UVC automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, hosted by Nazareth College April 22-24.
    
DUCKS VS. THE FIELD
Stevens went 6-2 in the UVC this year, falling to New Paltz and Nazareth in the opening weekend of conference play. The Ducks swept both of their possible opponents (Vassar and NYU) during conference play, and also won a five-set thriller against NYU in another match.

LAST TIME OUT
The Ducks won a pair of three set wins over MIT and Penn State University-Behrend on Sunday, helping clinch the No. 2 seed.

AWARD SEASON
Senior Tim Ferriter became the second Duck this year to win UVC Player of the Week, as he collected 34 kills, 20 digs and eight blocks, including a double-double against Ramapo College last Wednesday.

SENIOR SENDOFF
All six seniors made big contributions in their final home contests Sunday. Senior Ayal Ciobotaru led the team with 16 digs over the matches, while Scott Wright had six kills and four digs. Etan Bennett chipped in four total blocks, Chris Vaughan had 21 kills and 11 digs, and John Eddins handed out 14 assists in the two matches.

ON THE BLOCKS
Sophomore Thomas Burrell recorded eight total blocks against MIT while also adding six kills. The seven block assists were his most since a career-high 12 back on February 10.
