HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 2, 2016) – Under the director of new head coach
Dale Jordan, The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team is reloaded for another big season in 2016.
SEASON REWIND
Stevens went 15-4-2 last season en route to a ninth-consecutive Empire 8 Conference championship, and a 13th-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
NEW HEAD DUCK
Jordan was named the seventh head coach in program history in mid-August after a two-year stint as the assistant coach at Hobart Coach. During her tenure in upstate New York, Jordan was apart of 25 wins and a pair of semifinal appearances in the Liberty League Championship.
Prior to Hobart, Jordan spent the previous four seasons combined on the staffs at Rochester Institute of Technology, Monroe Community College and Nazareth College, after serving as a graduate assistant at Springfield College.
BACK ON THE PITCH
Senior
Jay Mikula represents the Ducks top returning scorer after a three goal, nine assist season in 2015. Mikula has been an all-conference performer in each of the last two seasons, and is coming off a season in which he set career highs in appearances, shots and shots on goal.
Senior
Patrick Masur also brings a wealth of experience to the Stevens midfield after back-to-back seasons of appearing in all of the team's matches. Masur scored two goals with two assists last fall, and has been named all-conference in each of his last two seasons.
Masur will be joined in the midfield by senior
Nick DeFelice who's coming off 14 appearances with six starts in 2015, and sophomore
Andrew Masur who started 19 games in his rookie season last year. Both will be called upon to continue to increase their roles on the field.
Also returning will be sophomore
Jimmy Doran who appeared in 11 matches last season, sophomore
Nicholas Cousillas who started six times with 14 appearances, and junior
Matt Perkins who's made nine appearances over his first two season on Castle Point.
Other sophomores looking to break into the lineup will be
Danny Nasti,
David Valian,
Nikolai Figueroa,
Alex Sugarman, and
Haddy Abdelhady, all of whom made their first career appearances last fall.
DUCKS ON D
Anchoring the Stevens backline this fall will be juniors
Tommy Dorsay and
Patrick Boylan, starting lineup fixtures since their freshman season in 2014. Dorsay was a second team all-conference performer in 2015 after starting all 21 games where he played the most minutes on the team.
Boylan has started all 41 games of his career, playing the second most minutes on the team in 2015. Boylan played at least 90 minutes in 17 of Stevens' games last fall, and managed to connect on his first career goal in late September against Swarthmore.
Senior
Mike Flinn will also return and look to increase his minutes on defense, as will sophomore
Brett Holtzman who made six appearances with three starts in his rookie campaign.
NETMINDERS
Competing for time in net this fall will be sophomore
Aaron Henry and freshman
Mitko Bozinov. Henry, a sophomore from Arkansas, saw action in three matches last season including his starting debut against Nazareth in the regular season finale.
WELCOME TO THE FOLD
Looking to break into the rotation in their rookie seasons will be freshmen
Chris Cesario,
Daniel Aversano,
Andy Diaz-Delgado,
Brett Hladczuk, and
Robert Frusina.
