Women’s Tennis ups streak to six with E8 victory over Hartwick

Short Story: The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team won its sixth consecutive match with a 7-2 victory over Hartwick College Saturday. The victory clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship.

How It Happened

Sophomore Nicole Badalyan and freshman Makenna Sargis opened the match scoring with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Hartwick earned its only doubles victory when Heidi Rice and Kelli Ryan bested junior Sydney Zoretic and freshman Chelsea Braithwaite (8-6) at No. 2 doubles.
The Ducks took a 2-1 edge into the singles portion of competition after the sophomore tandem of Isabella Calandra and Julia Earl earned a hard-fought 8-6 victory at first doubles.
Badalyan got the Ducks off to a strong start at singles with a 6-0. 6-0 victory.
Sargis and Braithwaite earned straight-set wins at fifth and third singles to give Stevens the victory.
Hartwick picked up its second victory of the match at No. 1 singles, where Rice battled back to defeat Earl in three sets.
Calandra and Zoretic closed out the match scoring with wins at second and fourth singles.
