Brandeis Tops Men’s Tennis

WALTHAM, Mass. (March 4, 2017) – The No. 22 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis couldn't overcome a doubles deficit Saturday in a 7-2 road loss to No. 30 Brandeis.

The loss dropped Stevens to 1-3, while Brandeis moved to 4-2.

Brandeis jumped out in front with wins at third and first doubles, but Stevens cut the deficit in half with senior Michael Feldman and junior Danny Polk's 8-5 win at second. The victory was the second of the spring for the No. 16 nationally-ranked pair.

The Judges responded with a straight-set win at second singles, before Tyler Ng topped Feldman 7-6, 6-1 at third. Regionally-ranked No. 4 Michael Arguello edged No. 13 Polk at first as the second and third sets each went into a breaker, while junior William Persson lost sets two and three after a 6-3 win in the first at fourth.

Brandeis added another point with a straight-set win a fifth, followed by a win at fifth over sophomore Divin Sarthak that came down to a breaker in the third set.

Brandeis entered the match with two singles players ranked regionally, in addition to ranked Ng/Aizenberg at doubles.

Stevens will be back in action tomorrow as Babson for a noon match.
