Brendan Monteleone scored a career-high four goals as the thirteenth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team won its sixth straight game Saturday with a 17-10 victory over St. John Fisher in an Empire 8 Conference game played at Growney Stadium.
Monteleone scored a pair of goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth to surpass his previous high of three originally set last season against Endicott on February 25. The sophomore attackman matched the three-goal output in the 2017 E8 Championship (May 6) and again earlier this season against Endicott (February 24).
Senior
Tommy Dawson collected four goals and two assists and junior
Max Bailey added two goals and four assists for the Ducks, who improved to 9-1 on the year. The victory kept Stevens atop the conference standings at 2-0. St. John Fisher, who has alternated wins and losses over its last six contests, fell to 6-4. The Ducks have topped the Cardinals in three straight contests and hold an 8-5 edge in the all-time series. The top offense in the Empire 8 Conference, Stevens has tallied 14 goals or more in nine games this season, including six straight. The Ducks are currently 11th in the nation with 15.8 goals per game.
"Really good job by the offense, consistently scoring throughout the game," said head coach
Gene Peluso. "Fisher is a well-coached group and [is] always a difficult team to beat at their place. So I am happy that we were able to get another conference win."
Senior
John Boutureira collected his fourth hat trick of the year and senior
Bryan Rogers along with freshmen
Shawn Coulter and
Ryan Gebhardt each added a goal and an assist. Coulter's goal was the first of his collegiate career. Senior

Will Reed each had an assist and first-year midfielder
Ryan Caplis scored his fifth goal of the year to round out the Stevens scoring.
"I was impressed with Monteleone, Bailey, Dawson and Boutureira for their production," Peluso added. "They are a big reason we won [Saturday's] game."
Nicholas Miller had three goals and an assist and Andrew Rosso had three points for the Cardinals, who fell to 0-2 in conference play.
Junior
Carson White made 10 saves to earn the victory for Stevens. Justin Townsend made 13 saves for Fisher in taking the loss.
The Ducks outshot the Cardinals 40-32 on the afternoon and held a 30-20 edge in shots on goal. Defensively, each team caused four turnovers and Stevens held a 36-28 edge in ground balls. Bailey picked up six ground balls to lead the team and sophomore
Alec Caseiro led the Ducks with two caused turnovers. Fisher posted a 19-12 edge in the 'X' with Joe Post leading the way with 19 victories. Senior
Scott Wedgeworth led the Ducks with 10 wins in the faceoff circle. Caseiro had the other two Stevens' wins.
Caplis opened the game's scoring, beating Townsend just 46 seconds into the game. Miller registered his first of the game to knot the teams at one, but Stevens scored three straight, including an 'Up' goal from Dawson to take a 4-1 lead after one period.
Mitch Rein drew the hosts within two with the first goal of the second quarter, however, Stevens scored the final four goals of the stanza to take an 8-2 lead heading into halftime. Boutureira had two of the three goals during the run.
Stevens' scoring run reached five when Bailey fed Monteleone for the opening score of the second half. Miller snagged his second of the game to temporarily slow down the Stevens' offense, but Monteleone and Bailey scored nine seconds apart to give the guests an eight-goal lead.
The Cardinals went on their longest scoring run of the game, totaling four goals in a six-minute stretch midway through the third quarter to trim the margin to 11-7. With momentum on the side of the home team, Monteleone returned a comfortable margin to Stevens, beating Townsend twice in an 18-second span to close out the third period with the Ducks holding a 14-8 lead.
Stevens continued to put the pressure on Fisher in the final quarter. Rogers found the back of the net for the fourth time in his last four games to push the lead to seven. Boutureira found Dawson for the Virginia Beach, Virginia native's 25th of the year. Rosso beat White late in the period for Fisher's final goal of the afternoon and Dawson scored his fourth of the day with just over two minutes remainng to round out the scoring. Dawson has found the back of the net in nine of 10 games this season, but has recorded at least one point in all 10 contests.
Stevens went 17-of-19 on the clear and Fisher converted 12 of its 15 clear attempts. The Ducks killed off six extra man opportunities and were successful on one of their two man-up chances. Stevens is 62nd in the country in man-up defense.
