GENEVA, N.Y. (September 28, 2018) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team started singles and doubles competition at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Friday. All of today's action took place at the Hobart and William Smith Tennis Center & Bristol Field House in Geneva, N.Y.
The Ducks had multiple entries in both brackets, with sophomore
Keegan Morris and freshman
Marc Feliu Gomez advancing to the round of 16 in the singles bracket. The other highlight of the day was the double tandem of freshman March Feliu Gomez and sophomore
Bryan Szayna advancing to the round of 16 in the doubles bracket.
Morris's day started with a straight set win over Uriah Miller from the University of Rochester 6-1, 6-1. The Franklin Square, N.Y. native then faced off against Yanik Parsch of New York University cruising to another straight set win 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the round of 16. Gomez's tournament started with a sound first round victory over Jeremy Auh of Vassar 6-3, 6-3. The freshman from Barcelona, Spain defeated Andrew Imrie from Rensselar to advance to the round of 16. Gomez took the first set in thrilling fashion winning in tiebreaker 7-5 and then closed the match out with a sound 6-2 win.
Gomez and Szayna posted a gritty 9-7 win in the round of 32 to advance in the doubles bracket. Round of 16 action for singles and doubles at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships will take place tomorrow up in Geneva, N.Y.
Keegan Morris is slated to take on Clay Thompson of Rensselar and
Marc Feliu Gomez will take on Vishal Walia of NYU. The doubles team of
Marc Feliu Gomez and
Bryan Szayna will look to continue their winning ways and advance to the quarterfinals.
