MACtastic! Men's Tennis shines on day one of the MAC Individual Championship

Stevens pushes all their single and doubles entries into tomorrow's semifinal

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (October 12, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team put together a strong performance on the first day of competition at the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championships.

Stevens moved all its single and doubles entrants into the semifinals and competition in the semifinal and final rounds will start at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Wilkes University and King's College are co-hosting the two-day tournament with matches being played at King's Indoor Tennis Club and Ralston Field Complex.

Singles Competition
Stevens entered seven individuals into singles competition today in the seven singles flights. Six players entered the tournament as the top seed. Sophomore Marc Feliu posted a 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals over Arcadia's Nicholas Simone to set up a semifinal match up with Andre Sturniolo of Stevenson.
Junior Keegan Morris secured a straight-set win in the quarterfinals against Lycoming's Cody Greenway in his only match of the day. Morris will face number four seed Blake Martin of Lebanon Valley's in the semifinals.

Junior Mark Kanevsky bested Lycoming's Casey Hass 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles bracket quarterfinals. Kanevsky will take on number four seed Zach Puccia from FDU-Florham for a spot in the championship.

Freshman Philip Szkudlarski needed just two sets to get past Messiah's Bryson Boettger and move to the semifinals. Szkudlarski will need to get past Lukas Sanidas of Stevenson to compete for a MAC title.

Junior Gabriel Sifuentes kept it rolling for the Ducks and moved to the semifinals thanks to a straight set win over Wilkes Alec Levin. Sifuentes will face number four seed Richie Abruscato of Stevenson in his semifinal match up.

Sophomore Arjun Krishnan put together a flawless performance in his only match of the day against DeSales Michael Fisher. Krishnan will face FDU-Florham's Chris Fiorenza in the No. 6 singles bracket semifinal.

Sophomore Eloi Pradier was the final Stevens player to punch a ticket into the semifinal round. Pradier recorded a 6-1, 6-3, straight-set win over FDU-Florham's Kaya Esgun in his only match of the day. The Paris, France native will take on Lycoming's Micah Haag in the No. 7 singles bracket semifinals.

Doubles Competition
Four doubles teams represented Stevens in four different brackets. Marc Feliu partnered with Keegan Morris entered the No. 1 doubles bracket as the top seed. The tandem impressed in their tournament opener by defeating Hood's Ben Deleo and James McKane 8-1. The No. 1 duo will take on Rich Bennett and Jacob Mostoller of FDU-Florham's in the semifinal.

Sifuentes paired with Szkudlarski registered a convincing win in their quarterfinal matchup against Lycoming's Casey Hass and Frank Summerson. The tandem will face the number four seed Will Pollick and Nolan Beck of DeSales in the No. 2 doubles semifinal.

Mark Kanevsky and Arjun Krishnan put together a brilliant performance in their quarterfinal matchup against Nick Holland and Jason Homschek of King's. The duo will take on Messiah's Bryson Boettger and Ellis Martin in the semifinals.

The sophomore tandem of Garrett Kincaid and Brian Li secured a spot in the No. 4 doubles bracket championship finals after recording two wins. The duo gritted out an 8-7 win in tiebreaker over Alec Levin and Chris Maderitz of Wilkes to advance to the semifinals. The sophomores cruised into the finals thanks to an 8-2 win over Paulo Gonzal and JJ Bonta of Stevenson. Kincaid and Li will take on Messiah's AJ Swanson and Connor Rose in the No. 4 doubles finals.
